The Social Music Network (what is this?) welcomes
- Music makers who are interested in a fair digital music ecosystem.
- Projects that put the artists’ work at the center in non-exploitative and ethical ways.
- Related professionals and friends contributing to alternatives to technofeudalism, chokepoint capitalism, and the fake bliss of consumerism.
We maintain this multilingual space to engage in fruitful collaboration and civil discourse, with kindness and attention towards everyone.
Follow us, maybe?
If you are not ready to sign up yet, at least you could follow us on the Fediverse: @fediverse@the.socialmusic.network. We only post federated-topics there.
Why sign up
Even as a reader, your sole presence is motivating. You help build a critical mass. And also:
- If you are away, you will receive a weekly digest with the most popular conversations. You can change its frequency or disable it.
- The forum will remember your unread posts the next time you visit, and you will receive notifications accordingly.
- You can track specific topics, categories, and tags. You can also mute them, and ignore users too.
- You can change the color palette i.e. Dark mode.
Introduce yourself
- Fill your profile, upload your artist picture, and place yourself on the map (only your city or town, not full address).
- Say Hi on the Introductions thread? Introductions thread! and on the General chat.
Participate
- The most simple and very important way to participate is to emoji-react (
…) to those posts you find interesting.
- You can comment in hot topics, the latest ones, or anything you search for.
- Do you have a question? Ask on #help.
- Do you have a topic to discuss? Start a conversation on General.
- Are you planning concerts, jam-sessions, listening-parties, and other activities where music makers and friends can meet you? Post them on the Events calendar and map.
- Have you checked Members > Our music and Members > Meeting points? Maybe you find an interesting corner and you have something to share too.
- Do you have feedback or ideas about The Social Music Network? Share them on This place.
- You can even participate from the Fediverse, boosting and replying to federated-topics from your Mastodon etc account.
You can also contribute to the moderation of this space by anonymously flagging posts – check the code of conduct.
Before posting about your music or other works, please check our expectations on Self-promotion in The Social Music Network.
What about our project?
The Social Music Network supports projects that put the artists’ work at the center in non-exploitative and ethical ways. If you are one of them, we can offer you:
- An own space under Projects that you can use to publish updates, start project discussions, run surveys…
- Automatic publication of project news via RSS feed.
- Access-restricted spaces for specialized conversations related to your project or for cross-project collaboration (group chat, forum or email are possible).
- An access control group managed by you to identify project members and contributors, who will also get a public badge.
All these are ideas technically feasible that we are just starting to put in practice. We are open to suggestions to make this place more useful to you!
