Yeah, sure – and wait for someone to look you up, when you don’t even have any posts!
Well, in the grand old forum tradition, I propose this thread to be for letting others know that you exist - and writing a few words on what you’re about, in a conversation-starting way.
Hi! I’m Dave, though I go by dried online. I make music & sound art, I play electric & upright bass, I write code for sound & controllers, and I make things out of wood (including an open-design DIY-able string resonator instrument).
i’m setto. expert happy derp, and part-time chillaxer. i make fluent spelling mistakes in 5 languages and i randomly Uppercase.
here primarily as assistant lurker, hoping to learn a thing or three and/or spot the occasional slot to drop some highly anecdotal science i have accumulated from +20 years in the bizniz against show-bizniz.
Live long and prosper!
edit:
it appears i am a professional forumite now, also.
Hello
I’m Emily. I make music as Socool. When I’m not working on music, I’m the Digital Creation Librarian with the Inspiration Lab at VPL - a very inspiring place to work indeed with free access to recording studios, music production software, and so much more.
On Mastodon, I’m at socool (@socool@ravenation.club) - Mastodon - let’s be mutuals if we aren’t already!
Hi Limnetic Villains here, I’m a musician from Ireland. I make sort of dancey indie rock stuff with a touch of gothic industrial kind of weirdness, others have placed my music as a sort of cross between Primal Scream, LCD Soundsystem and NIN, I don’t know about that, but it’s hard to describe your own music so I’ll go with what others have compared my stuff to. I’ve a bunch of side projects too of various genres. I’m a photographer, but the pandemic pushed me to do something with my music, so yeah, that happened and I somehow ended up selling quite a lot of records on Bandcamp: https://limneticvillains.bandcamp.com and more recently Faircamp: Limnetic Villains
I’m a big Sci Fi series and film nerd, you name it I’ve probably seen it. Won Kar Wai and Kubrick are probably my favourite film directors. I dig the Vampire Chronicles by Ann Rice, especially Blood & Gold, Bill Bryson is also very cool. I like chess, I love making Indian style curries and yeah, check my music out if you want. Hi.
I’m Lu (or Luka Prinčič aka Prince Lucija - he/she/them), computer musician/composer mainly working with Renoise and SuperCollider on Linux in various contexts.
Apart from my main passion, which is time-based live arts (music, expanded cinema, performance, stage), I’m also very passionate about just society, fair (trade) music, and lived experiences - and by extension solidarity, communities, cooperation. Since I’ve grown with digital networks from young age, I’m always looking at online communities and digital activism as a possible way of doing politics, autonomy, collectivity…
I’m admin of sonomu.club mastodon instance, initiator of #BeYourOwnPlatform (a toolkit of strategies towards ‘Radical Digital Autonomy for Musicians’) and running boutique cc netlabel Kamizdat. I’m very excited about fediverse social space, interoperability and all new interesting developments that are benefiting creativity and art-making online and offline. More about me on sonomu.club and my home web.
Hi, I’m jaxter184, and I do various music hardware and music software projects. I’m curious to see how the structure of this forum pans out and what direction it goes in. Looking forward to getting to know y’all!
Hello, I’m draco, my pronouns are they/them. I’m a multi-curious musician and music theory nerd with classical roots. You might know me from my sonomu.club profile, I also have a personal website.
I make music in a handful of divergent styles. My main instrument is the voice and electronic composition & livecoding in SuperCollider. I also play guitar and I have a longstanding ambivalent relationship with keyboard instruments. I discovered tinkering with various electronics in recent years and I’m currently curious about synthesizers, especially DIY circuits with simple, ubiquitous components.
Another constant in my life are constantly evolving queer feminist perspectives as well as neurodiversity and (recently) disability justice, which also informs my perspectives on technology and art.
Hello, I noticed a few people I know are here so thought I’d join.
I make various dance music & ambient music styles.
Mainly focusing on stuff around the house / techno area when it comes to dance music.
Also been making stuff that’s sort of soundtrack-styled for a while too.
I’m also involved with bonkwave, have contributed music, mastering, a bit of artwork and general wrangling to that.
I’ve contributed a mix to Audio Interface, and will hopefully be putting some more of those together in the future.
Hey all, I’m Stephan, currently writing and producing music under the moniker “Schall und Stille” (which translates to Sound and Silence). I couldn’t say what kind of music it is, just as I can’t say what kind of person I am or what’s different about me compared to everyone else.
I have three albums/EPs out which originally were released on Bandcamp by my label, the Submarine Broadcasting Co., and are also available on my faircamp site.
Because I’ve grown massively disenchanted with peddling my work on the internet, I’m currently working on an “offline album” which will be given away only in physical form and in exchange for something creative made by the other party (and/or, optionally, visiting me at home).
In my main time I do voluntary work at a (mainly) horse sanctuary (which is the whole reason why I am able to make music again), and I work part time as software developer to pay the bills. You can find me on the fedi here, and I have a blog here.
I wrote this, which apparently struck a chord with a lot of folks (and even made a few people buy my current album, although that wasn’t the intent).
Hi everyone, it’s your favourite shantysmith here. I’ve been writing music for more than thirty years, which sounds impressive but there was a 20-year gap in there.
Hello. I’m Simon, owner and operator of Bedlam Steps, an electronic music project from Bradford, Yorkshire, UK. I have a small pile of real and virtual synths and have dusted off the guitar and bass I’ve played for many years and make largely pleasurable sounds with them. I post stuff on my Faircamp at https://music.bedlamsteps.uk and have recently released an EP on Bandcamp, Mirlo and Bandwagon, and will push it to other sites shortly.
Hello dear Collegues, I’m Torsten Torsten. Here’s my faircamp: Musik von Torsten Torsten
I’m making folk-poppy singersongweirder music with common instruments (Guitar, Vocals) and strange ones (Duduk, Hackbrett, Mandolinette).
Besides in music I’m interested in sociology, pschology and hypnosis. I believe that music is a strong tool to shape and change people and societies. So I try to spread love and hope with my songs and license them under CC-BY licences.
Hi. I’m Kev. I make music as Hákarl. I play guitar, violin, oud. Currently I’m playing a lot of maqqamat on fretless guitar. I’m a developer for money. I very rarely cross the streams of making music with programming stuff.
I’m doing a tune-a-day thing on tiktok at the moment: TikTok - Make Your Day - about halfway through the year.
I’ve not been a forummer for a wee while so I’m interested to see how it’s improved in my absence.
Heart warming that there are already so many people here.
I’m Louis-Louise Kay, I’ve been making music and music adjacent things for a living for the better part of the past two decades under several monikers. My main project is called MOWUKIS and you can find some of it here mowukis.com
I’ve worked alongside @simon to develop and design Mirlo, and I’ve been hoping for a very long time that we could gather all the actors of alternative music distribution into one space to help develop new standards, new tools, and a common ground for us to escape the logic of siloed niches, and start communicating more meaningfully so that we can build with a sense of togetherness and cooperation, rather than burning ourselves out each in our own lane. I’m hopeful this the place !
Hello! My name is Kielen (key-len). Musically I’ve started using the moniker “Monarkie” (yeah…just like monarchy…clever. LOL)…anyway I’m a creative born of hip-hop, video games, and sci-fi. I have a decent-sized music catalog for no reason…haha. I really enjoy and excel at hip-hop influenced downtempo/electronic stuff. So, if you’re looking to be like Portishead, I’m your guy!
Anyway…I’ve spent the last year or so writing sci-fi short stories and am looking forward to getting to know a few folks!
…and something I’m extremely proud of is the capstone for my master’s degree in Music Technology. I recomposed the soundtrack for the 1987 NES game “Castlevania.” If you’re into that sort of thing, you can check that out HERE.
