Hello everyone! I´d like to introduce myself, but first of all thanks @TheIndieBeat to point me to this place. I’ve been reading a lot already, and discovered a lot of familiar faces from Mastodon/TIBTV.
My name is Matthias, my alias is ooRay, which I’ve been using since the 90ties. Born and raised in Berlin, I’m a kid of the 80ties & 90ties. Radio stations like AFN and RIAS 2, and of course the classic MTV are a big part of my roots, and had a big influence on my decision to pursue a career as media creative. I’m doing that since 2000, most of the time as a video editor/cutter. Even though music is always an essential part of it, the main focus is more on the visual part. That shifted a bit last year, when I decided to honour my musical roots and to focus more on music and music video production. The result is my first track ever published in the net, and the video premiering on TIBTV at the end of March. It makes me very happy and proud to see it played in the company of so many great videos made by so many talented artists. 
It has also been a dive into a rabbit hole aka the Fediverse and independent music production and distribution. So, I’m here to learn, learn, learn, connect and share. I also picked up DJing last year, and I’m currently working on a mixtape series I call “multi-spectral airplay mixes 90-99”. My 14 year old daughter has the previews on heavy rotation, and that’s also something that makes me very happy and proud. So, yeah, I’m in love with creation in general, and in my house, GenAI stays outside. Ok, so much for my first post, I’m happy to be here!

Lovely to have you here ! You might notice this place is sometimes a bit quiet, which we all here… kind of embrace, because a lot of the people here simultaneously extremely time and energy consuming projects (which you can handily check out here) so it helps that the discussions here are slower.
This being said, your specific point of view seems like it could be very valuable to some of us (I personally participate to Projects > Mirlo but I’m sure many others might be interested to have a chat with you) so looking forward to talk some more ! I’m both french and chilean, living in Paris, and playing guitar in an indie rock band called Wonderflu. I co-run Influenza Records and started recently doing silly charts with songs I like.
I spend a good deal of my time online on the Subvert forum so might not be here on a daily basis but I’m interested in any collective discussion about alternatives to the current music landscape. So I’m truly glad this space exists, thanks a lot for starting it 
Thanks for joining ! It’s funny because Mirlo has both a member with Parisian roots (me) and Chilean roots (Alex Rodriguez). You’ll find this is a much slower paced place around here, so it’s easier to keep up with even if you don’t check it out daily, mainly because TSMN isn’t the single point of focus of anyone but rather a hub for multiple projects, so it’s no one’s priority, but it’s also on all of our minds as well and it’s a good place to think in a more laidback way about protocols, concepts and how to unify our networks of libre and open source softwares and platforms into something meaningful.

I currently play in a Doom band. Actually have our first album releasing in October! Used to play other genres as well. Started out in a Garage rock band (lots of fun times were had) and my previous project was in a band named Kakapunk (translates to Shitpunk, often described as five drunk musicians trying to play jazz). Was an amazing project and still close to my heart.
Anyway, we’re trailing off… Very happy to be here! Only just discovered the platform through my Fediverse digging. Cheers to my fellow nerdy musicians and techlovers!

I’m Thomas Zobrist, a French independent artist based in Besançon, France.
I’ve been a composer, musician and producer for more than 30 years. My music has been available online since at least 2000, and I’ve released several albums over the years, including Anesthésie, Inner Child, Sexual Circus, Metamorphosis and, more recently, Delta9. I’m currently working on another album.
My music covers electronic music, songwriting, pop, rock and more experimental forms. It’s available through Bandcamp, Spotify and SoundCloud, although some tracks are only available on SoundCloud.
I’m also a screenwriter, writer and graphic artist. I’ve published my autobiography, When I Was a Rock Star, as a digital edition, and I’m currently writing a web series called En Sursis.
I’ve also made several entrepreneurial attempts throughout my career, including projects in Tech and other fields completely unrelated to music.
I’ve worked independently for most of my career, so I’ve followed the evolution of online music and digital platforms from quite early on. That’s one of the reasons projects such as Subvert, Faircamp, Mirlo and the wider Social Music Network caught my attention.
I’m new here, so for now I’m mostly here to discover what you’re doing, listen, exchange ideas and see where this community is heading.

I’m Nick, 38 year old raver dad. 10 years ago I came up with an idea, as I was djing and making music and disillusioned with SoundCloud and beatport and the like. I created SignalFlow on paper back in 2018, but could never find investors, so it sat on a shelf until about 4 months ago when I decided to build it myself.
SignalFlow.co is our website, we also have iOS and Android apps. We are a Social Music Platform, right now it’s themed mostly for electronic music, but SignalFlow was named after a studio recording principle, signal flow, and I want the platform to be music in general at some point.
The site offers artists a place to build a proper place for their music. A fully customizable profile, image and video support, lossless audio, live streaming, and a whole lot of other tools, and it’s free. Right now the first 200 artists get 100GB of storage for life, then free accounts are 10GB, and then it’s $5-15 for larger storage. All the tools are free.
The fan platform is a full social platform, messenger, all the stuff you’d expect from a social media platform, except no ads, no data tracking, no AI, no corporate bullshit.
There is an events/promotion portion coming later, but for now it’s just music and social.
The apps are amazing, and I’m actively adding to everything every week. Would love for you guys to test us out, and maybe I’ll meet some people to network with. Currently working on a radio shows thing with a friend on there, always looking for feedback and ideas.

Doing my best to be transparent. I went and made a massive platform and released it in full capacity out of nowhere, I kind of figured it was gonna set off some red flags for people lol
There’s a lot that hasn’t been added yet, need a lot more feedback from people to really get it fine-tuned, but it is fully fleshed out currently.
I’m not worried about content moderation very much, because I’m not looking to get deals with distributors or labels or anyone. The idea is if underground artists like it, and bedroom artists grow on it, bigger artists will come willingly and then I don’t have to pay millions of dollars for a catalog of popular music just to sacrifice the accessibility and discovery of the artists who helped to build the platform. They have agencies and marketing teams, most artists don’t.
I think the thing people need to remember in creating any project that you guys are working on is that if you are going up against some kind of monolith of corporate control, the best thing to do is the stuff that they should’ve done in the beginning. SoundCloud, beatport, Spotify, all these major names in the business have grown into the monsters that they are, and because of that, they can’t cut any limbs off.
The power everyone here has is that you’re starting from scratch, you have the ability to do things that they can’t walk back and do. Monetization is a load of shit. It’s trickle down economics. Artists make music, fans support artists. That’s how that works. Every single thing we do today works against that, and that’s why I made SignalFlow. These companies can’t prioritize anything but growth and investors now, we can build things without intervention and build it better.
