Haha, same exact experience for me with Bluesky - but I see some folks getting wild engagement there. I just can’t replicate it.

Looking into why there’s less women/non-men on Mastodon (66%–71% male and 29%–33% female), I have a theory that it’s the mastodon itself that’s the problem. It’s got more masculine appeal (compared to a butterfly). They should offer a community graphic design contest to come up with different renditions of the beast, style her out. Right now to me feel it feels pretty male-dom. Though I don’t really mind personally, instinctively it might not appeal for many.

Hope it’s okay to share a few tools that I have recently created that I think are helpful at promoting our favorite fediverse communities and fediverse in general.
- The jointhefediverse.net website, which recently celebrates its third year, is now available as a zine
- With the Fediverse Invitation project, you can create a customizable invitation page with your favorite server, apps, and starter packs
- You can also include a link to the invitation page as the last page of the zine
- https://mastodon.jointhefediverse.net is a Mastodon-centric “don’t make me think” page that goes over some of the recent updates and highlights existing features Bluesky lacks
- And lastly, with https://friends.jointhefediverse.net you can find links to fediverse profiles in the bios of people you follow on Bluesky
Hope you’ll find some of these useful!
