Discourse, the software that powers The Social Music Network, comes with a rather sophisticated system to grant badges. The default badges are given to users automatically as they perform actions or accumulate merits. It is possible to create custom badges that can be also tied to automatic rules or can be granted manually.
Badges are useful for motivation and recognition. They can also be used to grant specific permissions i.e. access to a private group.
Some ideas (just ideas, names and descriptions can be improved):
- Bootstrapper - You joined TSMN during its first week.
- Music Maker Pro - You are working hard to make a living from music.
- Live performer - You play at concerts listed on Events.
- Developer - You contribute code to open source projects for music makers.
- Label - You run a label.
- Doc writer - You have contributed at least one complete doc to the Knowledge base.
