The nlnet foundation has supported many projects (or components they require) that today are part of the social music maker toolkit. They just announced a bunch of new grants:
I have perused the list and wasn’t able to find anything directly related to music making, but many potential improvements to cogs in the complex chain of federated discovery, distribution, and payments. Or amybe I’m just optimistic.
I’m the same, I really have my eye on these funds and hope they will support a music project.
I’ve also been thinking about coordinating this with arts grants across multiple countries, supporting Fedi artists using this technology. That way, the tech will benefit from musicians’ PR campaigns, advocating for fair music platforms!
Fedi doesn’t have the benefit of corpo PR, which is really why so many of our music scenes are moving to Bluesky instead.
I’ve successfully applied for an ACE Project grant in the UK before, so I’ll try this again this year. I’ll also talk to other UK Fedi musicians who want to investigate this with me.
are there any EU or international arts grants we could coordinate with?
what music projects are applying to NLnet grants, how can we support them and encourage inter-operability between projects?
I think inter-operability is the only way we are gonna compete with corpo music platforms.
@Mel we could host here this coordination between music creators, developers, projects, etc, applying to grants. We have everything needed to start. I encourage you to open a new topic to discuss the details.
