As September draws to a close, we've been continuing to make improvements to Mirlo, thinking about what an artist and listener-first ecosystem actually looks like and doing a bunch of reading. So let's have a look at a few things from this month that relate to that.
We published another Mirlo Book Report this month, delving deeper into the excellent Mood Machine by Liz Pelly.
We added a blog post about some of the recent improvements mentioned above.
We know that this article will resonate with many: "Millions of Volunteers Are Keeping the Internet Human. For Now".
Somehow we all missed Napster's pivot to AI.
Thanks to Rachel Cholst for this mention of Mirlo in a piece titled The Future of Music is to Slow Down and Build Small. That's a title we can get behind.
And now for the songs that found their way to us in September and became our #MirloMondays picks.
September 7th 2026: "Weβre all just making this up as we go."
That's the basis for today's #MirloMondays find, which is by Decibyte featuring Jamie Hill and started out as a piece of advice in a newsletter! π°π¦ββ¬
September 14th 2026: Because a lot of us are hard to be around on a Monday, here's today's #MirloMondays discovery, which is also "Hard to be Around". No, that's the title. And it's got split vocals with a feeling of barely concealed menace, raucous riffs and everything. ππ¦ββ¬
September 21st 2026: Should you listen to some no wave today? Art rock? Indie? Punk? Or maybe something with woodwinds?
Yes. βοΈπ¦ββ¬
This is BRNDA (via the Crafted Sounds label), with "Total Pain".
September 28th 2026: Um, no, we didn't pick this for #MirloMondays because it looks like there's birds on the cover (and because this song is called "Bird of Shoes"). It's because of the toy keyboards and the solid songwriting that feels like a friend, actually. ππ¦ββ¬
That's all for now, but be sure to share your Mirlo release news, recent purchases, merch, subscriptions and more with us on the Social Web, Bluesky or Instagram. We also have a Discord server.
