Mirlo Features Update: July 2026 by Mirlo

We've been incredibly busy over the past few months updating the website and making it more usable. Read on to find out what improvements we've made… 🛠️🐦‍⬛

Major features

Social music

We've been working together with the folks at Fairplayer and a couple of other members in our community to think about what "federated streaming" or "social streaming" might look like. The Fairplayer folks have been doing significant work here and you can now stream artists on Mirlo who have enabled the setting on Fairplayer.

If you're on the social web, you can now also follow an artist who has the setting "remote follows" enabled, by clicking on "follow" and entering your server location.

Accessibility overhaul

We're still putting in a ton of work to make accessibility across the site better. This is in the form of an improved interface that works better across the board, and specifically if you use a keyboard, a screen reader, or voice control. Reach out if you have any feedback so we can make things even better.

Downloads rework

We've been improving how downloads work. Better errors and a friendlier interface when a release isn't ready yet, simpler download logic info, and making our downloads more efficient bandwidth-wise. Now you can download your 2GB noise folk album without it costing us an arm and a leg.

Search & layout overhaul

We've now got a beautiful global search bar. You can now narrow search to your collection or wishlist directly, search tracks/releases by artist name, label name, or title. This new search also works when you add music to blog posts and recommandations to your artist profile releases.

Unifying our purchase flow

We've been working on tidying and unifying the code that handles our payments and ties things to Stripe. This will hopefully make integrations with other payment processors easier going forward.

Self-hosting & ops

We've been improving our documentation, instructions, and guidance on how to set up Mirlo on a server. We've also been simplifying how we handle file storage to make set up less of a burden on self-installers. More on this to come!

Smaller but notable

  • Subscriptions/supporters: you can now import subscribers into any tier. We've improved the flow for cancelling subscriptions and you'll stay subscribed until the end of your pay period, and we have improved how the stats show for your supporters.

  • Email: Postmark added as a mail transport with provider-fallback handling reworked.

  • Content/metadata: You can now sort merch, edit album track counts, add release-art alt text, see whether a track has lyrics in the player, and we've done some refinement around metadata on flac files.
