As many of you will have already spotted, Mirlo now integrates with FairPlayer, so listeners can discover your music on Mirlo alongside folks using Faircamp, all in one handy player!
So what is this?
FairPlayer is a federated streaming offering which acts as an additional layer of discovery to musicians using Mirlo and Faircamp, although we hope to see other services join in the future. It is in the spirit of linking every small music service together into one browsable experience, so that listeners no longer have to be funnelled to many different places. An indie music service aggregator, if you will. We feel that this is better for musicians and listeners if everyone can be part of the music community, whichever service they choose for hosting their music and we hope you'll agree.
What isn't this?
This is not a streaming service in the traditional, corporate sense. Instead, we feel that this is comparable to a food court, where a vendor might offer a free sample as an encouragement to visit the main restaurant.
You do not have to opt-in if you don't want to. Those who do opt in though can limit the amount of free plays by a listener before they are prompted to buy the release, similar to how Bandcamp currently works (except it's like having access to many Bandcamp-style places at once)!
How do I opt in?
If you head over to your profile settings, there is a section underneath the Default platform cut section and you'll find some button toggles. If you select the one that says Enable federated streaming, then you're all set, you don't even need to create an account with FairPlayer!

Quite possibly! We are currently involved in a lot of exciting conversations with different music places and coders towards building an alternative music ecosystem that actually gives musicians the means of production, so to speak, through interlinked platforms, self-hosting and more.
