I’m currently talking Mauro, with one of the people in charge of the Ubuntu Summit event that’s happening in London this October.
It’s all just ideas being thrown around right now, but I am trying to see if it’s possible to set up shows at clubs or venues in London during the event that feature musicians in the open-source, creative commons, and fedi realm performing.
They are interested in promoting these events, and I’m really just trying to figure out if it’s at all possible. Since I’m in the US was wondering if anyone help me in finding places to do it and musicians to be involved by October.
I plan on talking more about it with him this week, and was wondering if anyone would be interested in something like this?
Another place that might be able to help is Cities and Memory - they hold meet-ups in London and it’s the right sort of crowd to be involved. They have a WhatsApp group and a Discord.
New River Studios is a nice venue. However I’m not based in London and am generally a crap promoter — and next month is short notice.
Just joined their Matrix group. I gather it’s mainly an online thing, that the speakers will be in London but there’s no in-person attendance? I wonder then is it more feasible to organise a livestream thing?
Thinking maybe a 2 hour event with short sets from a few artists who use Ubuntu Studio or whatevs, with a little panel discussion at the end.
Yes, it does seem more like a virtual event. They literally made the announcement as I was writing that post here to talk about it. Up to then, they were just saying they were doing something special this year and teasing that it was coming, but they couldn’t tell me. Ha
But my first thoughts after that was a live streaming event too. He said that they might be interested in sharing the event.
I figured I would update the title of this thread since the summit is now a streaming event.
I spoke with one of the leads behind the Ubuntu Summit, and the new concept is to create a companion music stream with the event that they will be connecting to in the Ubuntu Summit Discorse. They are really excited about the idea of open culture and creative commons musicians performing.
My current task is to find musicians/bands that want to be involved, so if you want to do a live stream performance we’ve set up a Google form for musicians to apply!
And the event is happening Oct 23rd - 24th, so please let us know if you are interested as soon as you can
Wanted to update this, we kept running into trouble with a way to get live stream performances to connect with main output stream. That and time zones. So we are accepting live recorded performances that will be broadcast for the Ubuntu after party stream.
Also then are looking for music to play on the stream between the summit sessions if you have CC music you want to have played let me know.
