Independent ticketing under threat from "AI" and other tech changes

Continuing the discussion from Mapping the music infrastructure in Aotearoa:

I was very disturbed to hear that Under the Radar is shutting down. Then relieved to learn that its only the UTR ticketing service shutting down, and the editorial and gig guide will continue.

Still, that’s one less competitor for the corporate ticketing cartel (Ticketake/ TicketMonster, et al). Worse, the reason UTR management gave for shutting down ticketing was “the current pace of future tech and AI threats”.

This is very worrying, because other independent ticketing services could be under threat too, in Aotearoa and elsewhere. Or indeed other kinds of services.

Is there anything TSMN organisers and technologists can do to help independent music services protect and futureproof themselves?

Im’ not sure i know or understand what’s the threat AIs pose to ticketing services, and what decided the winding down of UTR’s ticketing service. Could you explain a little or give links to places where it’s exposed in a clear way ?
