Ben and I grabbed a moment to catch up this week, and our conversation produced a question I’d love to run by y’all.
Bandwagon has both genres and tags for albums. When an artist adds genres and tags to their album and syndicates to TIBR, that genre and tag data is shared with TIBR. The way that should happen, ideally, is via the mp3 id3 fields.
Our question is around where in the mp3 metadata (aka, which id3 field) should Bandwagon store the tags?
We want to (i) do what artists, users and other apps would expect, and (ii) ensure that the way we do things is distributable for future Bandwagons and IndieBeats—that we help facilitate a bigger, diverse, future ecosystem.
Bonus question: how would you like to be able to use tags in connection with your music? We see people associating instruments, gear, countries, cities, etc. with their music via tags. How else do you use them?
