From camille@praxis.nyc on Mastodon: Folk Tech is a movement for people who want tech for their community without depending on big tech companies. It’s an alliance of decentralized, p2p, open source, open standard-based tech developers.

Join us 19 Nov for our first community connection call to hear from Ivan Minutillo of Bonfire.

Join us for our inaugural virtual call!

Folk Tech is a movement among people who want to develop apps for their community without depending on big tech companies and a community of developers making decentralized, p2p, open source, open standard-based tech.

In Silicon Valley, people are “consumers” and “users.” We resist a narrative that turns people into subjects of a technocracy. With Folk Tech, we’re all just folks.

We’ll have a presentation from Ivan Minutillo about Bonfire, a customizable community platform built on Activity Pub.

We’ll delve into “what a community garden needs” with Emily McGill.

We’ll have room for discussion about Folk Tech and how we can start a movement to have beautifully designed, simple-to-use peer-to-peer, open source, open standards-based, and decentralized technology so that our needs matter!

Get to know other folks in the scene and bring your own projects, either community work or tech. We’ll offer time for demos, share-outs about aligned projects and events, and updates about Folk Tech in the world.

We can’t wait to meet you or see you again.

I tried adding an event but I think I failed
