Hi Lime,
What exactly is the question?
I (and I think many of us on the fedi) know NHAM and FairTradeMusicFriday… however Fair Trade Music International is a new thing to me. It seems like something that works somehow like “Our objective is a modern digital music economy that incentivizes creativity, increases access to new music and is equitable for everyone in the music value chain.”
cool, but also “hmm”.
I think you answered my question, actually. ![]()
We’ve all been talking about fair trade music and here is this existing Canadian (global?) org called Fair Trade Music International … and just wondering about people’s thoughts on it.
BUT… you’ve confirmed the feeling I was getting which was this is just some other corporate beast.
It’s good to be watching for that. I’ve seen many mission-driven orgs sucked into the NGO-industrial complex, in both the Open Source and CreativeCommons spaces. But I think FTMI deserve the benefit of the doubt until we learn more. Their About page gives the impression of a strongly musician-driven organisation, with musician founders still on the board.
