Re: Emails going into spam - you can improve this by configuring more details in DNS such as SPF records etc for the.socialmusic.network
… doesn’t look like you have these right now?
Maybe I configured something wrong? I welcome advice.
We are using Sinch/Mailgun for transactional email and, according to the dashboard, everything is verified and good. This is what we have in the DNS records related to mail (sensitive data removed):
_dmarc.mail 10800 IN TXT "v=DMARC1; p=none; pct=100; fo=1; ri=3600; rua=mailto:(snip); ruf=mailto:(snip);"
email.mail 10800 IN CNAME eu.mailgun.org.
mail 10800 IN MX 10 mxa.eu.mailgun.org.
mail 10800 IN MX 10 mxb.eu.mailgun.org.
mail 10800 IN TXT "v=spf1 include:mailgun.org ~all"
s1._domainkey.mail 10800 IN TXT "k=rsa; p=(snip)
the 10800 IN A (snip; it's public anyway)
Maybe the problem is that the “the.” subdomain isn’t part of the equation? I dunno.
If you configured that on socialmusic.network
but you’re sending from the.socialmusic.network
then yes that will be a problem - you’ll need to reference the exact subdomain.
I use this site to check these things: the.socialmusic.network Domain Health
Actually re-reading that zone file it looks like you may have configured those records on mail.socialmusic.network
so you’d need to be sending from that.. but I don’t tend to use zone files directly like that when there’s so many helpful web-based tools so I might be reading it incorrectly
@keef Thank you for this headsup. I have found two problems in the email configuration that are fixed now. They weren’t critical for Tuta and GMail, who still would send emails to my Inbox and not Spam, but now emails should be 100% fine.
MXToolbox still can’t find the records and I don’t know why (I’ll keep checking, maybe it’s that DNS problem it reports). But for GMail, SPF, DKIM and DMARC are “PASS”, and this plus the fact that my Tuta account isn’t complaining either, this is good enough. I also found this website (no idea who they are) and the checks look good except DMARC (will investigate).
If anyone finds our notifications in the spam folder, please report back so we can keep checking what is going on.
