Bringing down the cost of running Mirlo by Mirlo

Mirlo has reduced the cost of running itself by nearly two-thirds, making it more accessible for individuals and organizations to launch their own instances. A small instance can now be set up for roughly $40 a month, empowering music collectives, labels, and artist communities to create their own fair, open-source, music sales and artist support platforms.

Because we're open-source each instance set up can meet the unique needs of its community while upholding principles of fairness and mutual aid. Whether it’s a local artist co-op or a global network, Mirlo provides the flexibility to break free from corporate constraints while we build a decentralized music ecosystem.

If you’re interested in launching your own Mirlo instance, get in touch. Whether you’re a musician, collective, or organization, we want to hear from you and get you set up. This has been in the works for a couple of months (and would not have been possible without open source contributions!). The work done for this also opens up the path to federation with ActivityPub, thinking about data mobility, looking to a future of syndication, while we continue to bring down the cost of running Mirlo on your own servers.

While we’ve significantly reduced the cost of running Mirlo for small communities, our own hosting costs are still very expensive and the work of keeping Mirlo running is non-trivial. Pitch in!
