Announcing the Hype Circle and Code Circle: Building the Future of Mirlo Together

At Mirlo, we’re aiming to create a space where artists and listeners can thrive in a fair, open, and community-driven ecosystem. As we grow, we’re excited to announce the creation of two new circles: the Hype Circle and the Code Circle.

These circles are designed to help us focus our efforts, empower our team, and ensure that Mirlo continues to evolve in ways that serve our community.

The Hype Circle: Building Buzz and Fostering Community

Aim: To build hype around Mirlo and nurture our vibrant community.

The Hype Circle is all about spreading the word, engaging with our supporters, and creating a space where artists and listeners feel connected to Mirlo’s mission.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing our social media platforms to share updates, stories, and exciting news.

  • Facilitating and moderating our Discord community to keep conversations lively, positive, and productive.

Decision Rights:
The Hype Circle has the autonomy to decide what to post, when to post, and on which platforms.

Coordinator: Simon

The Code Circle: Keeping Mirlo Functional and Future-Ready

Aim: To ensure the functionality and growth of Mirlo’s codebase.

The Code Circle is the engine behind Mirlo’s platform, working to make sure everything runs smoothly and that we’re always improving based on feedback from our users.

Responsibilities:

  • Talking to customers and users to understand their needs and respond to bug reports.

  • Building and testing prototypes to explore new features and improvements.

  • Shipping a successful product that artists and listeners love.

Decision Rights:
The Code Circle has the authority to plan and prioritize features, groom the issue backlog, and decide when to ship updates to production. For infrastructure decisions that could increase costs, they’ll consult with the worker-owners.

Coordinator: Simon

Why Circles?

Circles help us organize our work in a decentralized, participatory way. By giving each circle clear aims, responsibilities, and decision rights, we’re empowering our team to take ownership of their work while staying aligned with Mirlo’s mission. Learn more about circles in our recent blog post, or in our operating agreement.

What’s Next?

We’re committed to transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement. We’re building out at least a couple more circle ideas and will be formalizing and asking for help in the next few weeks. Join us on Discord to share your ideas, feedback, or just to say hi.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://mirlo.space/post/236

@simon Very interesting! Any chance you want to bring TSMN infrastructure to the Circles’ mix? Happy to discuss your needs and requirements.

@icaria36 not sure what you mean!

@simon for instance:

Where do these circles gather? Could they meet in TSMN?

How and where can people give feedback to these circles? Could TSMN be a venue for that?

Would it make sense that TSMN become an extension / complement / alternative to Discord in some piece of your community puzzle?

True questions. I’m not saying I see clear answers for them.

I like the direction you’re going in!

However, right now since these are Mirlo specific circles, for maintenance of Mirlo, we will primarily use our internal tools for project management. We actually talked about setting up discourse to be that tool, but I still think we’d benefit from having our own space (mainly because of notification management tbh and not getting overwhelmed).

It could be cool to set up a recruitment pipeline for this work that starts here though.

Hello. I’d be interested in knowing more about this and could potentially help out from the end of April.
