The Social Music Network is a community that encourages fair music distribution and exchange. We want to encourage a diverse and multilingual community of makers and thinkers that engage in civil discourse, with kindness and attention towards everyone. (more)
We have a code of conduct and we are forming our moderator team. We want to have a diverse team that everyone can trust.
Expected moderation tasks include:
- Check that new posts are on topic and react as needed: merge, split, recategorize… This may happen more frequently.
- Check that new posts abide by the code on conduct, handle flags by users, and react as needed: contact the author, hide / unpublish / delete posts. This might be infrequent, but when it happens it might need time to address.
- Deal with problematic users. This might happen seldom, but when it does it’s usually a complex situation.
- Update the code of conduct and content guidelines as needed, in consultation with the community. Seldom and probably interesting.
- Participate in the outreach and selection of new moderators. Surely interesting.
The average workload depends on the number of moderators. Right now is very low. Our community is new, still small, and specialized. We expect slow and sustained growth without becoming a massive community. If we can be three or more people, moderation tasks could be 1-2 hours per week and per person, with fluctuations.
The moderation team members will collaborate in a private space in our Discourse forum. We aim to have clear guidelines for moderators to handle known types of problems. Any other situations will be discussed and agreed within the team. The software offers a sophisticated and yet easy to use moderation toolkit that eases the work in problematic situations. We can offer peer training to moderators not familiar with Discourse.
The Social Music Network is entirely run by volunteers. As of today, we cannot pay moderators. However, we understand the importance of this work and we are open to find alternatives.
This call for moderators is organized by the administration team, formed by @icaria36, @Mel, and @defaultmediatransmitter. You can express your interest to any of us. Candidates will be reviewed and selected by the three of us by consensus.
